You are the Giant; Be the Giant

Yesterday I discovered a game that brought down the house for Cee.  He loves to hide behind my back, and even though he never bores of it, I get bored saying, “Where’s Cee?” over and over again (especially since I know exactly where he is – he tends to giggle and tickle my toes while he’s back there).

So, to amuse myself I started revamping the monologue from Jack and the Beanstalk’s classic giant.  I’m a giant to Cee, so why not?  Since the giant talks in verse, it’s poetry, poetry is art, I made it up on the spot, and now here it is in Improv Art!

Using a deep giant’s voice I started with:

Fee Fye Foe Fum
I smell Cee’s stinky bum!

But then branched into:

Fee Fye Foe fickle
I think someone wants a tickle!

Fee Fye Foe Fug
Time for a big bear hug!

Fee Fye Foe Figgle
I hear the sound of a little Cee giggle!

Fee Fye Foe Felly
My what a tasty little-boy belly!

All the verses had actions to match and Cee went nuts.  He laughed so hard that I think we’ll be having this poetry bash daily.

Thursday Reveal #5

wordless wednesday 5Thanks to everyone who participated in yesterday’s Wordless Wednesday.  I know this isn’t a very “artsy-fartsy” kind of picture, but it was my favorite of the bunch from last Saturday’s adventuring so I just had to save it for a special display.  The look of delight, the completely natural flush to Cee’s cheeks, the indifference of the pony – precious.

The title I gave this picture was The Baby Horse Whisperer.

The top contributions for the week were:

1 – Grandma Bobbie with: “Please Daddy…please let me take him home.” “I promise to be good and feed him everyday.”

2 – Jay with: “Love at first sight! ”

3 – Barbara with: “Wow dad how would you like to blow that nose!” (An appropriate thought since Cee and I are still blowing our noses since having that cold last week.)

As always with Wordless Wednesday, please leave a comment with the title or description that you would give the picture.  On Thursday I’ll reveal the name I chose as well as the top 3 contributions.

Photo Challenge: Make a Nostalgic Item Feel Nostalgic

Something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately is how Cee lives a life of hand-me-downs.  Impossible you’d think for a first and only child, but it’s true thanks to Jay’s very generous sister with a little boy of her own and several of my relatives.  He has used clothes, used shoes, used bedding, used bed.

He doesn’t seem to mind, and neither do I.  Everything is new to Cee and everything with a history is all the more precious.

In particular is Cee’s crib.  The first person to assemble that crib was my grandfather who put it together for his first born son almost 60 years ago.  A few years later my own mother slept in it as did the six other children that followed her.

My brothers and I slept in it.  My aunt’s 5 boys slept in it, and now it’s Cee’s turn.

nostalgic1editedThese spinning balls were painted blue and pink by my parents while they were awaiting their first child.  They didn’t want to wait to refinish and paint the crib so they went with both colors for either gender.

nostalgic2editedsmallHolding onto this rail I said my first word, Hi.  Mom walked in and said, “Hi Kimberly!” and I shocked her by answering right back.  Over the last 14 months I’ve gripped this rail plenty and thought, Can I do this? I’M the mom.  Is he still breathing?

nostalgic3editedsmallHere’s the place where so many babies have laid.  Peacefully resting, occasionally whimpering and squirming with baby dreams – what could they have dreamed when they were so small… mother? milk? heaven?

After taking that last picture I realized that I really needed a baby model so I scooped Cee up and threw him in the bed.

unhappy modeleditedsmallHe didn’t understand that I needed a model and took this as a sign of trouble and began to protest, thus ending my game.

Here’s the challenge.  Photograph a nostalgic item.  Use angles, lighting, color, anything you can to try and create the feeling that you have for that item.  Make the picture as special as the item is to you.

If you need help with the editing go to picnik.com.  I use them for all my pics and they have great options for free.  I used lots of filters for these pics, but best for creating a nostalgic feeling are sepia, black and white, and soften, but be creative and have fun.  I’d love to see the finished results if anyone would like to share the challenge.  Good Luck!

Thursday Reveal #4

wordless wednesday 4Wordless Wednesday #4 was taken while Cee was playing with a card box in the corner of the office.  It is one of his favorite places to play in our entire home and he spends a great deal of time there.  To create a more magical outdoors, I intensified the colors of the trees outside and made the rest of the picture beyond the trees and Cee black and white.

I named this picture, In My Own Little Corner, like the song from Roger & Hammerstein’s Cinderella.  This is where Cee is his most imaginative which puts me to wonder if he’s on an African Safari or flying on the wings of his fancy.

*Thanks to everyone who participated in naming the picture.  We had so many suggestions that I decided to do a top 5 this week.

1 – Somewhere out there is the biggest chocolate chip cookie in the world. by Bobbie Jo

2 – Someone Has to Clean the Windows by Angela

3 -  I looked out the window and what did I see? by Jay

4 – Caged Bird by Amaree

5 – Oh The Places I’ll Go by Proud Grandpa 2

Thanks everyone for playing along and I hope you’ll play again next week.  If you want to see all the contributions, check the comments for Wordless Wednesday #4.
