Haiku for You Friday

The boys around me

hack, snort, snot, Kleenexes pile.

One week till we fly.

With only 8 days till our big college recruiting/family vacation, my boys have come down as snot noses.  I’m fine so far, but I sure am worried for my snuffle heads on the flight.

Thursday Reveal #13

wordless wednesday 13Wordless Wednesday #13 was taken in San Antonio at the ‘Round Up’ party we went to last weekend (you may remember it from the goat-nose-picking post that was up this week).  These rabbits were the softest sweetest things, and since Jay used to own rabbits during his farm boy days, he was showing me the proper way to grab rabbits – who would have guessed that you have to use the ears?

I edited this picture on picnik.com using exposure and color editing.  Then I used the Boost tool to really punch up the color of the grass.  However, using boost though can wash out white areas, and I noticed that the rabbit’s paws had just about disappeared.  So I used the paintbrush option, and took the rabbit’s white fur and Jay’s hand back to their normal coloring.  I also used Vignette to add the dark framing to the edges.

My Title:  They Really Don’t Pay Me Enough at This Gig

As for contributions this week, I’m going to have to change the protocol a bit and do my top three contributors since my number one spot goes to Jay with 3 clever suggestions and I don’t want to use only his.

1 – Jay with:

  1. Hey, I know this looks ridiculous but when your a member of a traveling petting zoo, this really isn’t that bad. At least he is not picking my nose (poor goat).
  2. Hanging by a hare.
  3. Are you serious, how much longer until my break?

2 – Sara N. with: “And for my next magic trick…”

3 – Proud Grandpa with: “Here’s lookin’ at you kid.”

Haiku for You Friday

Went to the doctor’s

Play time, check this, that, shots.

All well now, home safe.

I hate taking Cee to the doctor’s.  People do strange and terrible things to him that he can’t understand and the whole time he sees me hovering over, not doing a thing to stop it.  I worry about what that does for his trust, but luckily he gets over it quickly and is a happy boy on the car ride home – today he was particularly enthralled with a sticker that I gave him.  He didn’t stick it or eat it, he just held it out and stared at it for a long time.

When we got home he bit me.

I guess that’s fair payback, but I put him in timeout anyway.

NO biting; not on my watch Mister.

Thursday Reveal #12

wordless wednesday 12smallWordless Wednesday #12 was taken on the beach at Fort Stevens during our trip to the Great NW.  There is a fairly famous shipwreck there on the beach, and rather than take it down for safety reasons, they leave it up to thrill the tourists.  It really does add a fun element of history and mystery to a normal day at the beach.

I loved the colors of the growth on the ship, so I used Lomo-ish on picnik.com to bring out those colors even more and to haze the edges (I thought that seemed more mysterious or ghost-like).  I wanted this pic to be about Cee’s adventure with the ship, so I used a faded black and white filter on everything around the boy and ship to make the color and adventure even more emphasized.

The title I would have chosen was: “Dad, There be Pirates Here!”

Since my title was a little on the goofy side, I went with the contributions that made me laugh and giggle the most for my top three:

1 – Jay with: Hmmm, upon further investigation I don’t think this boat is seaworthy anymore.

2 – Angela with: Shhh, Mom won’t find us here!

3 – Mama D with: Close enough to inspect? Maybe…
