Wordless Wednesday #29

As always with Wordless Wednesdays, please leave a comment with the title or description that you would give this picture.  On Thursday I’ll reveal the name I chose as well as the top 3 contributions.

(Anyone who says, “Remember the Alamo” will be disqualified and shamed as the most unoriginal person ever – I’m looking squarely at YOU Jay.)

Thursday Reveal #19

ww19Cee has such tunnel vision when it comes to dogs that I really wanted to emphasize the hidden dog in this picture (for the background story on that click HERE).  I used picnik.com* to make a focal black and white, so that the dog was the only thing actually colored, but then used the fade slide to bring muted color back into the rest of the shot.  I also used Orton-ish with no bloom to give the picture a “Hardlight” effect.

The title that I chose for this picture was:  The Neighborhood Zoo

My top contributions for the week (and I had a LOT of good ones so I took the three that made me laugh the hardest):

1 – Jay with: Owner: It’s ok boy, that human won’t bite you. You can go out and look at him. Just don’t get to close the fence.

2 – Terri with: “Why is the doggie in jail,or is it me?”

3 – Proud Grandpa with: How do you say “Peek-a-boo, I see you” in dog language?

Thanks to everyone who played along, and I hope you’ll be back for next week!

*Picnik doesn’t compensate me in any way for mentioning them on this blog.  I just love the free service that they offer.

Thursday Reveal #17 with Ghostly Photo Challenge

wordless wednesday 17Wordless Wednesday #17 was taken about a year ago (wow, a lot can change in a year!) in the local cemetery of our college town.  I went with a friend for a amateur photographer’s night and had a great time with their models as well as being my own subject.  This pic was taken on the night setting, on a tripod, and with a timer.  During the long exposure I made exaggerated movements with my body to make the ghost effect, then later I edited in the spooky colors.

If you want to take the challenge and try a shot like this there’s a few tips to remember:

  1. DON’T use flash – that will shorten your exposure right back down and you’ll get a frozen picture. I did this shot near a street lamp and it worked out well for long shadows.
  2. DO use a tripod – even slight pulses in your hands will disturb the long exposure making the whole pic fuzzy.
  3. USE the environment, having the tree and tombstone near me showed that while the pic was solid, I was moving.
  4. MOVE slowly and deliberately – if you move too fast you’ll disappear, move to slow and you’re just a blob.  Try lots of motions and HAVE FUN!

I’d love to see how it goes if anyone decides to take the challenge!

The title I chose: The Ghost in my Past

My top contributions this week were:

  1. JoAnn S. with: Witches riding through the sky,
On their broomsticks way up high,
Black cats howl as they go by,
    For this is Halloween!
  2. Javann with: Ghost in the Graveyard
  3. Amaree with: In the “dead center” of town!

Haiku for You Friday

The boys around me

hack, snort, snot, Kleenexes pile.

One week till we fly.

With only 8 days till our big college recruiting/family vacation, my boys have come down as snot noses.  I’m fine so far, but I sure am worried for my snuffle heads on the flight.
