Slow Cooker Swiss Steak
If you have a real meat-and-potatoes man on your hands like I do, then this recipe is sure to please. Not only was Jay in heaven, but I was too since it threw together fast! The meat was so tender that we couldn’t even keep it on our forks, and the vegetables were flavorful and tender. Great for a Sunday family meal, or for days that you don’t have a lot of time.
Slow Cooker Swiss Steak
- 1.5 lbs round steak
- pepper and season salt
- 6 new potatoes cut into quarters (I used red potatoes)
- 1.5 c. baby carrots
- 1 med onion, cut into wedges
- 1 can diced tomatoes with Italian herbs
- 12 oz gravy from jar or packets (I jut used packets since that’s what I had on hand)
Cut beef into 6 serving pieces. Spray 12-inch skillet with cooking spray; heat over medium-high heat. Sprinkle beef with pepper and seasoned salt to your liking. Cook in skillet 6 to 8 minutes, turning once, until brown
Layer potatoes, carrots, beef and onion in 4- to 5-quart slow cooker. Mix tomatoes and gravy; spoon over mixture in slow cooker.
Cover and cook on low heat setting 7 to 8 hours or until beef and vegetables are tender.
Kim’s notes: Next time I may try reducing the number of potatoes, thickening the juices to a gravy and serve everything with mashed potatoes.
Happy Cooking!

Thanks for the recipe! The meat was great…very tender and flavorful. As per your suggestion, I reduced the number of potatoes from 6 to 4. It was still too many for the two of us. Next time I would up the reduce it to two or three….depending on the number of people for dinner.
