Mom-finitions for a Monday Morning Smile

These “Mom-finitions” were sent to me from Barb, who got them as a Facebook post, forward, message-y thingy.  I don’t know the original creator to give them the credit, but as their theme is funny mom moments, I couldn’t help passing them along to make Monday Morning a little more cheery.

Peemergency

Boy-o-sphere
[boi-OH-sfeer] noun: That weird, stuffy, puppy breath kind of smell that permeates a boy’s room, especially when they’ve kept their door closed all day. Is it the laundry? Their shoes? Can’t quite place where it’s coming from, but you’ll know it when you smell it.

The only day you absolutely have to leave the house in the morning and your kids decide to actually sleep in!

Slug Hug

Aug Mommy Goal Results from Jenny

This morning I got a Mommy Goal Results email from a woman who’s been a friend of mine for over 20 years.

Yikes, I can’t believe that I can say that! That’s what old people say!

Before I post her results I just want to say quickly how proud I am of this family.  Not only is their daughter developing her amazing talents and becoming quite the entrepreneur, all of this came about because her parents didn’t just give her the doll she wanted – she had to earn it.  Imagine the confidence and self esteem this little girl must be feeling with her new found success!  This is a great lesson in parenting!

035From Jenny:

This month I had planned on taking your goal and making cookies on Sundays just as I did as a kid. The month got crazy and we have not been home on Sundays to make this happen. I read your goal again and realized that we have shared a family favorite recipe with my beautiful daughter. At six years old she had a goal to earn some money to buy a doll that she fell in love with. She had the brilliant idea of a lemonade stand. Well, I am not a fan of lemonade stands, so I suggested that we do something at the local town market held on Friday evenings. She loved the idea and we started something that is starting to get rather large. Her dad’s mother makes some very tasty cinnamon rolls and on occasion sells them. 041So we started the cinnamon rolls. She did a lot of the mixing and measuring (great math lessons in fractions, who said fractions were boring?). She took her cinnamon rolls to the market and sold all 20 of them. The next day at work, her dad mentioned that she was trying to earn money and many of the ladies there wanted to support her in her effort. Another dozen and a half was ordered. When those arrived at work, another two and a half dozen was ordered. And they just keep coming. Apparently they are good. Each time we make them together she does a little more. All that I do now is bake them and heat the milk on the stove (the hot parts that a six year old shouldn’t really be doing anyway). It is very fun to see her grow in her love of cooking and being able to share that with her. And what is better than a little girl covered in flour?137

Thanks so much for your contribution!  My only question now is, do you think she’d be willing to share the recipe? ;)

A SAHM is Worth Her Weight in Gold (well, pretty close anyway)

Have you ever wondered what it would cost your husband if he suddenly had to replace you with a professional for all the many things you do?  Mothers wear so many different hats, that to come up with the monetary value of a full time SAHM is a funny thought.us-money-photo

Well, FOX news reported on a study by Salary.com and apparently our hard work and dedication would talley up to nearly $117,000 annually.  No, it’s not that we’re high priced executives or that custodial work is higher paying than you thought, it’s that our glamour job is mainly overtime hours which equals BIG buck-olahs!

So the next time you’re feeling a little over worked or under appreciated, remember just how much you’re worth to your family – they can’t afford life without you!

This is the link to the original news article if you’re interested in reading more.  It was emailed to me by a friend which is why it wound up here:

Library Lovin’ from Angela

This week I got a great comment in my Reading is Love posts from Angela S.  She wrote:

I love all these great books! … Anyway I hope this month you take a moment to talk about the blessing and joy of a library. I certainly DON’T want to tell you what to do, but the library is a great resource and place to be. I was lucky that my mom taught me to love and enjoy a library at a young age and I am teaching that same love to my children. Just passing it on…reading rocks and so do libraries.

Thanks for the contribution!  Libraries are a joy, not just for the books, but for the community programs offered and friendship that can be found there.  Many libraries offer art projects, performances, even family movie nights for free, and can be a great resource for fun… oh yeah, and education too.

I’ve been really lucky to live within walking distance of a library throughout Cee’s life.  They’ve been a big part of his development so far and I’m excited to keep it going.

Free date idea: One time I checked out an instructional video on Salsa dancing to surprise Jay with.  We ended up having a hilarious date in.

An Awesome List for Rice Uses… oh and the WINNERS too!

Thanks to everyone who participated in my Minute Rice giveaway this week.  I loved reading your comments and have complied a list of great ideas for nontraditional rice uses.

  • I used rice in decorative containers and then laid my jewelry in it for display. Very pretty.
  • Of course I have Rice inside a clean sock (tied up) or rice inside a homemade cotton packet makes a really awesome heat pad. Just microwave in minute intervals and voila, cheap pain relief.  Or you can sew around the two edges, fill it with rice, then finish sewing it up, and keep it in the freezer for bumps and owies, or pop it in the microwave for headaches and cramps.
  • We have used it for art projects. You know those colored sand things you can make at the fair for mega bucks? Colored rice does the same thing for way cheaper!
  • YES! for my godson, I took a few huge bags of rice and put them in an underbed storage box(clear) and it is similar to a sandbox only using rice! get some cheap dollar store toys and voila, fun for all ages!!
  • A baby shower game: Put (closed) safety pins in a bowl full of uncooked rice. Have people take turns trying to fish out the pins while blind-folded. It’s way harder than it sounds! Safety pins feel amazingly like rice.
  • In our household not only is rice to eat but more importantly its a tool that we use for my sons texture therapy. My son has food aversions and textures are part of his problem so we put the rice in plastic containers and we encourage him to pick it up play with it stick toys in it etc.
  • I’ve used rice for instruments with the kids.
  • I haven’t had to use rice, yet, to dry out my cell phone but my husband saved someone’s iphone by telling them to put it in a bag of rice. It really worked!
  • Put a little rice in your salt shaker and it absorbs the moisture so that the salt doesn’t clump!

And now for the most important part of the post, the WINNERS!
