Last week I posted a little story about David Archuleta going to visit the assisted living center where my grandmother lives. I intended it to be a little story about service and anticipated that maybe my dad would read it.

An Awesome List for Rice Uses… oh and the WINNERS too!
Thanks to everyone who participated in my Minute Rice giveaway this week. I loved reading your comments and have complied a list of great ideas for nontraditional rice uses.
- I used rice in decorative containers and then laid my jewelry in it for display. Very pretty.
- Of course I have Rice inside a clean sock (tied up) or rice inside a homemade cotton packet makes a really awesome heat pad. Just microwave in minute intervals and voila, cheap pain relief. Or you can sew around the two edges, fill it with rice, then finish sewing it up, and keep it in the freezer for bumps and owies, or pop it in the microwave for headaches and cramps.
- We have used it for art projects. You know those colored sand things you can make at the fair for mega bucks? Colored rice does the same thing for way cheaper!
- YES! for my godson, I took a few huge bags of rice and put them in an underbed storage box(clear) and it is similar to a sandbox only using rice! get some cheap dollar store toys and voila, fun for all ages!!
- A baby shower game: Put (closed) safety pins in a bowl full of uncooked rice. Have people take turns trying to fish out the pins while blind-folded. It’s way harder than it sounds! Safety pins feel amazingly like rice.
- In our household not only is rice to eat but more importantly its a tool that we use for my sons texture therapy. My son has food aversions and textures are part of his problem so we put the rice in plastic containers and we encourage him to pick it up play with it stick toys in it etc.
- I’ve used rice for instruments with the kids.
- I haven’t had to use rice, yet, to dry out my cell phone but my husband saved someone’s iphone by telling them to put it in a bag of rice. It really worked!
- Put a little rice in your salt shaker and it absorbs the moisture so that the salt doesn’t clump!
